Untitled 1

Small, but beautifully formed!

Pyper York Limited might not be the largest agency in the world - in fact, it is quite petite - but its team  is second to none, offering excellent, realistic and affordable professional advice to companies and organisations from one-man start-up companies to national and internationally-renowned tourist destinations and visitor attractions.

However, don't be fooled by our small size - we have spent the last 20 years working with a wide range of professionals and freelancers, including designers, copywriters and print brokers, so no matter what your project is, we can pull together a team to manage it.

Jay Commins, managing director

Jay has over 20 years' experience working across a variety of sectors, including construction, food and leisure, but has increasingly specialised in tourism. Currently, he works with a wide range of tourism clients, including York Minster, the JORVIK Group of visitor attractions, North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the Arts Council funded Joining Up The Humber Museums.  He has the unusual claim to fame of having promoted not one but two Apocalypses - Ragnarok for the JORVIK Viking Festival and the Apocalypse panels of the Great East Window in York Minster.

Jay set up Pyper after eleven years working for Leeds-based Footprint Impression Management, and continues to work closely with the Footprint team on a number of projects.

Samantha Orange, consultant

Equally happy escorting a party of Jorvik Vikings to lay siege to the Blue Peter studios, launching a five star hotel and spa in the south of France or overseeing the PR for a buy-out by one of the UK’s largest house builders, Sam has vast experience of managing a diverse range of consumer, business to business and trade PR campaigns that has brought her into contact with regional, national and international media over the last two decades.  She is currently heading up the 'First Time in York' PR campaign for Visit York.

Sam and Jay have worked together since 1995, either as co-workers at the same agency, or - at times when Sam has moved across to in-house positions - as client and consultant.

Nicola Bexon, associate consultant

Nicola has enjoyed a 15-year strategic adventure in the tourism, leisure, heritage and not-for-profit sectors, specialising in marketing and communications, commercial development, and audience and stakeholder engagement for organisations including the National Trust, English Heritage, JORVIK Group, local authorities, and most recently York Minster. She also works for sports management consultancy, Think:Act whose clients include Disability Sport Wales and Streetgames. On her epic quest, she’s worked with international media, and a complex mix stakeholders and funders. She’s also shone Mr Darcy’s riding boots, released crystal horses and giant stained-glass orbs, and re-discovered lost iron age hillforts and cold war bunkers, while watching the sun rise and set over two World Heritage Sites. As client or consultant, she has worked with Jay and Sam for over 10 years.

Andrea Commins, director

With a full time job as a head teacher and three children with hectic social lives, it is a wonder that Andrea finds time to support Pyper's work, but her skills as an education practitioner and manager are invaluable for the educational projects with which Pyper is involved, ensuring that we keep up-to-date with the very latest developments, trends and requirements of schools in the UK.

Piper Nerys Commins, canine advisor

Piper is the only member of the Pyper team to actually appear in the company logo, and even gave her name to the company, although did insist on a different spelling so that post did not get confused.  She spends most of her time offering encouragement to the team, and ensuring that they are kept healthy with regular visits into the garden and paddock outside the office.  She doesn't have a desk in the office - just a cushion that she sleeps on.  Did we mention that Piper is the company dog?
